Make-A-Wish

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is the designated recipient of funds raised through the charitable efforts of the Permian Basin Oilman’s Bass Invitational (PBOBI). Specifically, contributions are made to the West Texas and New Mexico Chapters of the Make-A-Wish foundation, to benefit local children with life-threatening illnesses.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation began in 1980 as a grass-roots effort to grant the wish of a little boy dying of Leukemia. Seven-year-old Chris Greicius dreamed of becoming a police officer, but was not expected to live long enough to see that wish fulfilled. Through the concentrated efforts of a family friend who was a U.S. Customs Officer and the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Chris was able to achieve his dream only days before his death. The impact of granting this first wish triggered those involved to create the Chris Greicius Make-A-Wish Memorial, which later became the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Since its beginning, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted the wishes of over 200,000 critically ill children, fulfilling the dream of a dying child every 40 minutes.
